Massera (previously Massage XR)
Inspiration
Many people today struggle with sleep quality, muscle pain, joint mobility, immune function, stress, and mental alertness. Massage is one of the most effective and natural ways to address these issues. We want to help people — and their partners — learn and practice massage therapy at home, improve their skills, and share meaningful moments together.
What it does
Massera is a Mixed Reality (MR) app that teaches massage therapy in a fun, interactive way. Users can learn and practice various massage techniques, focus on different body parts, and progress through guided lessons to develop their skills. It brings the classroom and therapist’s experience right into your living room.
How we built it
We developed Massera using the Meta SDK, leveraging Passthrough, MR Utility Kit, Effect Mesh, and Poses to create an immersive learning experience. The app uses hand tracking and body calibration for intuitive interaction.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was anchoring virtual guides accurately to the human body. We developed a custom calibration system that aligns virtual objects with the user's body in real time, achieving both precision and adaptability. This innovation became a core strength of our app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud to have created a new method of scanning and calibrating the human body using only hand tracking, with no need for external hardware or wearables. This breakthrough opened up new possibilities for body-focused MR experiences.
What we learned
We learned how to design and build an MR application from the ground up, and gained hands-on experience working with the Meta Presence platform.
What's next for Massera
We’ve launched a dedicated website at https://www.massera.app/, where people can learn more about the app. Massera will soon be available on the Meta Horizon Store, making it accessible to a global audience. Our next step is gathering feedback from early users and continuing to improve the experience based on real-world use.
