As students of Mason, our inspiration was just our experiences at campus before lockdown. Using Mason Money has always been a pain, and we've only used the app for orientation to get our photos taken for our IDs. The current app is quite bad, indicated by the 1.8 and 2.5 star reviews on the app store and google play store respectively and it does not even start up on many device which have kept up with the latest ios updates. We decided we could make a better version that helps students as well.

Our budgeting app has functions to deposit money into Mason Money, shows students locations of on campus sites that accept Mason Money, deals, off-campus Mason Merchants, as well as a Budgeting portal that one can use to manage the money allocated.

This app was built with Microsoft PowerApps

The main challenges we ran into were, learning the PowerApps system, and working within the constraints of the 'free tier' of PowerApps available to all Mason Students. This included memory and some features like database storage and we had to work around those. We also all needed to be on the powerapps platform to use it so we had to work on it one at a time which was not accounted for.

We are quite proud of our progress in this application. We are all relatively new and this is our first hackathon so just being able to reach where we are is great.

We learned a lot about Powerapps and its functionality, working on that was a new experience. And although more of a soft skill, time management was also an interesting factor that we had to deal with since Powerapps is not collaborative.

The next step for the Mason Money app is adding more features to help the user. More budgeting tips, finishing up some of the unfinished sections, and hopefully GMU sees this and either improves the current one or takes ours.
