Inspiration

Our inspiration In the current situation of Corona Virus, that it seems like it has spread to other countries. And there are a lot of the problems that emerged from this, and one of them is the shortage on mask. So we wanted to look at the possibility to make your own mask with some readymade object we can normally find, as well as a little bit of digital fabrication.

What it does

It is an open-sourced design package that provides the general public a way to make their own mask in the case of an emergency. The mask design includes the 3d printed front part, the rubber silicone Besides the necessary part of the mask, which does the most fundamental job of filtering, we also included a modular design part, which is detachable and replaceable from the main part of the mask. We made an example of using the Arduino LED display to try to address the topic of emotions to make the people feel less isolated and isolated when they are wearing the mask.

How I built it

We separated the process into three parts. Initially, we did background research on the current masks on the market and analyzed how they are and when they are being used. Taking inspirations from the current Coronavirus and flu, we have decided to design a mask that can be self-made at home. We drew sketches at the beginning and started modeling in rhino. We divide our group into two teams and one of them is responsible for model-making, and the other groups work for Arduino and modular-based functions.

Challenges I ran into

The challenges happened mostly during the fabrication process. We encountered issues with casting with concrete and rubber. The parametric shape that we with wished for the rubber band that goes around the head was unsuccessful. In addition, we have a made 3D printed model that is not flexible enough to fit most users. We will be working on these challenges in future iterations.
