Inspiration
Every day many of my friends and I used to open the menus of multiple dining halls and check if there is Indian food in any of them. This was inefficient and I built a Python scraper for my personal use. To make it available for everyone, we decided to make a website/mailing list.
What it does
Users will receive an email whenever Indian food is made in a dining hall at MSU.
How we built it
We built it using a simple stack consisting of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on the front end along with Node.js and Firebase on the back end. It is hosted on AWS and emails are sent using Amazon SES.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built and deployed this in 12hrs. More than 50+ people have signed up within 24 hrs since our launch (19 April 2023)
What's next for Masala Monitor
We will add more cuisines, such as Thai and Greek food. We also look forward to building a web app where people can set notifications for particular dishes.
