Inspiration
We heard from Tinder's CEO about the pleasure of hacking at a hackathon and later on creating what became a multi-million dollar company. Additionally, we talked to DisneyTech's team and really enjoyed hearing about their passion in storytelling and applying that to everything possible.
What it does
It matches you up with random people based on who you swipe left or right to; the images that are used to represent these people are all gathered from the Marvel API. Those Marvel images are then stripped as the conversations get deeper and deeper.
How we built it
Using an already well-established backend, it made it easier to start up a mobile app fast. Michael had experience with Ionic and AngularJS and Russell and Aaron were very interested in web design and front end development.
Challenges we ran into
Lack of experience in hackathons led to struggling to finalize an idea and working slowly and without much direction. We definitely went around the place looking for solutions. Of course, no sleep was a large challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
To some degree, we think the idea is really creative and experimental; and we're glad that we got really far with the app.
What we learned
Web Design, heavily collaborating on ideas, working with strangers and delegating tasks.
What's next for Marvelify
We could possibly team up in the future to work on more projects together since we had a productive experience.
