Inspiration
In high school, I was puzzled: why did teachers need to grade exams manually? Couldn’t grading be automated? This idea planted a seed in my mind. During my undergraduate studies, I served as a teaching assistant, grading each student’s answer individually. Although time-consuming, it felt rewarding. I also realized that many teachers and teaching assistants, especially women, spend significant time on grading alongside household and family responsibilities. To alleviate this burden and promote gender equality in education, I decided to develop an automated grading device to save time and effort for all teachers.
What it does
Our Smart Printer is an automated grading machine for paper-based homework that helps teachers conduct fair and efficient grading. It aims to free educators from repetitive tasks so they can focus more on individual student growth.
How we built it
By combining cutting-edge large-model technology with innovative product design, the device utilizes APIs to call the model, enabling one-click scanning of paper homework, traceable grading, and data analysis. This technology allows educators of all genders to share grading tasks equitably, focusing on student development.
Challenges we ran into
We have identified some seed users, but we are currently facing funding and commercialization challenges. We hope to overcome these obstacles so that our device can benefit more teachers and students, especially in resource-limited schools.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our seed users have had a very positive experience, and the device has saved teachers a great deal of time, allowing them to focus on student growth. By reducing time spent on grading, we provide both male and female teachers with more balanced work-life opportunities.
What we learned
Through continuous product improvement based on user feedback, we have come to realize that promoting gender equality in education relies on easing repetitive workloads for teachers and enhancing work efficiency.
What's next for Smart Printer: Automated Grading Machine for Paper Homework
We will seek to establish a founding team to further optimize the product and expand its global impact, especially in supporting gender equality and diverse educational systems.
