Inspiration
When we think of campfire, we think of friends, community, arson, stories, and, most importantly, marshmallows. That's why we wanted to bring friends together with games about camp, games about stories, and flares of marshmallows. I believe it was Shakespeare who said, "What is a foe but a friend without a marshmallow?"
What it does
Marshmallow Mayhem is a mini-collection of games to play with friends.
Flickering Fables
Flickering Fables is a collaborative story-building game. Each person takes a turn adding a sentence or two to the story. The catch? They can't see most of the story that's already been written! They only get part of the sentence that the previous player wrote. At the end, everyone gets to read the magnificent prose so elegantly composed by your teamwork and friendship (which turn out to be pretty funny).
Camp Counselor
Camp Counselor is a competitive game where the goal is to be the last eliminated. You and your friends pick a person to be the first camp counselor. Each of the remaining players take turns filling out prompts (nouns, adjectives, questions, etc.), which culminate in the end to become the camp counselor's introduction speech. The counselor must stand up and deliver the speech, and the first person to laugh during the speech is eliminated. The game continues until only one player remains!
How we built it
We used pure HTML, CSS, and Javascript with some help from Figma.
Challenges we ran into
We kept running into formatting problems with the CSS. But now we're chillin.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are pretty proud of how it all turned out! The front page looks considerably better than we initially thought, considering we both have no design experience nor an artsy bone in our bodies. It's great that our project works using minimal-ish CSS and Javascript, which makes everything fast and light.
What we learned
We learned a lot of useful Javascript tricks and general techniques we've never encountered before. Some skills, like transferring data between pages and dealing with input-tag data, were new to the both of us as well. On top of that, we did a little learned a little bit of Figma.
What's next for Marshmallow Mayhem
More games! More friends! More games with friends! We have ideas for more games that will bring people gathered around the campfire, which we hope to soon deliver!
