Inspiration for Mars Travel Agency
Get the weather from Mars before your next trip! Mars weather was a natural go-to for Space themes.
Tracking
Inspired by tools like Where is ISS?
Flyovers
Look up at the sky and imagine a different world

What it does
Mars doesn't have zipcodes, but Earth does! Searching by zip code, you get the relative weather, had you already been on Mars. You can compare and imagine life on Mars.

How we built it
Some team goals and project concerns were dealt with at the top, including how we were planning on spending the next 36 hours. Part of the design focused on a prominent showing of the temperature difference required for a traveler to make decisions about climate and weather
For development, we started with Next javascript frameworks. That idea was shortlived. Why not just HTML and CSS and Bootstrap?
Technologies used
Nasa and OpenWeather Apis HTML/CSS/Bootstap/Javascript/Git
Challenges we ran into
What technology should we use?
Next.js seemed promising, but for simplicity (one of our team goals), we found HTML/CSS/Javascript would do fine.
Where to start
Enter a zip code to get the weather where you are versus the weather on Mars!

The default location is Troy, NY, home to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the oldest private engineering and technical university in the US.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
After a bit of a late start as a virtual-only team — yes, fully remote collaborative effort, using Git and Discord allowed us to collaborate virtually.
What we learned
CSS, Bootstrap, Javascript, sequential and parallel fetching. We also learned that NASA has some really cool APIs!
Future use
This fake commercial agency could get people imagining what life is like on Mars.
What's next for Mars Travel Agency
Currently the apps lets you use any US zip code, yet the app has worldly implications available to anyone that can input a region. We would like to add a way to input cities or locations worldwide, and maybe show more data like sunrises and sunsets.
