Inspiration

We’ve always been fascinated by robotics for as long as we can remember. From Spheros to FIRST, we loved seeing motors move and wheels spin. The magic of it all was that it was controlled by a simple file that, when compiled, would give the robot instructions. However, we started getting into more advanced robotics, I realized that there were hardware issues to be met as well. We decided to create a project that would aim to both teach newcomers to robotics about basic robot scripting, as well as some basic hardware issues that are commonly faced.

Building

To easily test it and connect my project to Github, we decided to use Replit as an online, easy to access IDE that would compile and run HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. To make it easier on our end, we used libraries such as JQuery and DOMPurify to speed up development. As we programmed, we consistently kept in mind the common issues and new ideas that newcomers to robotics might face.

Challenges

Unfortunately, several challenges arose during the development of the project. The primary issue was time and location. While programming the project, one of our members was on vacation, which meant that his parents expected him to enjoy it rather than spend time on his computer. As a result, he only had a few moments when he could program, and we had to work late into the night and even into the morning to complete the project. Additionally, our unfamiliarity with tools like the HTML canvas made it harder to complete on time. Thankfully, these issues were resolved by the end of it all.
