Inspiration

We took our inspiration from indoor parking lots where they have lights placed right above the parking lot which shows the occupancy of the parking spots.

What it does

Marron spots is a tool or device which uses distance sensors which are placed underneath parking spots which detects if a car is occupying the spot. This relays the realtime information to the publicly hosted website which informs our user what parking spots are taken.

How we built it

We used two distance sensors connected to our arduino placed under our makeshift parking spot, additionally we have our rasberry pi that has wifi and bluetooth connectivity, we transfer the realtime occupancy of the parking lot using our arduino uno R3 microcontroller to our publicly hosted website on our raspberry pi.

Challenges we ran into

Some of the challenges we faced have to be the bluetooth reciever due to the infunctionality and slow processes it had. Due to this reason, we had to change our micrcontroller from arduino u3 into a rasberry pi. To do this, we had to carefully overcome our challenges by learning the key components of the task in order to make the device IOT friendly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

In our project, we were able to publicly host our website using our raspberry pi and we sent our data from arduino to the raspberry pi which relayed the information to our website successfully.

What we learned

We learnt that creating a good idea is the basis for a good final project as well as planning out our steps reduces the amount of problems we encountered.

What's next for Maroon Spaces

We plan to expand our reach into numerous outdoor parking spots which would help relieve traffic and be better for big live events such as football games, concerts and festivals.
