Inspiration

The inspiration for Mark-it came from the challenges many students and employees face while navigating large campuses. We recognized that while tools like Google Maps provide basic navigation, they often fall short in helping users find specific rooms or facilities within buildings. This ignited our passion to create a solution that prioritizes accessibility, efficiency, and community well-being.

What it does

Mark-it is a B2B indoor navigation platform sold to universities and companies on 6-year contracts with a 1-year cancellation window. Its core features provide detailed navigation to specific rooms or areas, integrate voice commands for accessibility, and allow users to report issues like locked doors or hazards. Additionally, it features room booking, recommendations for nearby places to volunteer, and even emergency route planning in case of a crisis.

How we built it

We started by pushing our idea into Claude.ai, using the platform’s capabilities to refine and edit our concept to better fit our specific needs.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was making our abstract idea concrete. We needed to find an effective way to illustrate our vision and ensure it resonated with our intended audience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A significant milestone for us was creating the prototype for Howard University. This allowed us to showcase many of the add-on features and demonstrate the full potential of the Mark-it Map Service.

What we learned

Through this process, we explored various problem-solving strategies and learned how to implement AI for good. We found ways to redefine what truth and service can mean in the context of technology.

What's next for Mark-it

Looking ahead, Mark-it plans to expand its offerings not only for businesses and universities but also for other sectors, including hospitals, hotels, and more, broadening our impact and reach.
