Marge Health
Inspiration
My sister, Margaret, has sickle cell disease, and I carry the trait. Seeing her struggle with preventable crises inspired me to create Marge Health—a proactive AI-driven solution to reduce hospitalizations and save lives.
What It Does
Marge Health leverages AI and IoT to predict and prevent sickle cell crises before they happen. By integrating real-time vitals from wearable devices with advanced analytics, we enable early intervention, reducing hospitalizations and cutting treatment costs by three times.
How We Built It
We combined:
- Next.js for the front-end interface.
- Google Gemini Flash Thinking Model for AI-driven crisis prediction.
- Firebase for real-time data storage and alerts.
- IoT hardware using ESP32-C3, MAX30105 sensor, and Arduino with C++ to track vitals like oxygen levels and heart rate.
Challenges We Ran Into
Integrating with MeldRx was seamless, but testing EPIC integrations posed challenges due to complex authentication and sandbox limitations.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
- Successfully built an AI-powered crisis detection model.
- Developed a functional IoT prototype for real-time monitoring.
- Created a user-friendly platform for patients and caregivers.
What We Learned
- AI can significantly improve chronic disease management.
- Real-time health data integration is complex but crucial.
- Healthcare APIs require deep optimization for seamless interoperability.
What's Next for Marge Health
- Full-scale EPIC integration to bring predictive healthcare into hospitals.
- Expanding AI capabilities to personalize interventions.
- Clinical trials to validate our impact on reducing SCD crises.
- Launching pilot programs with hospitals and caregivers.
Marge Health is redefining sickle cell care—one prediction at a time. 🚀
