Inspiration

We started this project because we noticed many people get stressed when planning trips. They worry about things like where to stay, what to do, and even the weather. We wanted to make it easier for them. So, we came up with the idea of creating a smart helper, like a friendly robot, that could give them all the information they need for their trip. Our goal was to take away the stress and make planning fun again. We love traveling ourselves, so we wanted to help others enjoy it too. That's why we created this project—to make travel planning easy and enjoyable for everyone.

What it does

The application provides a travel planner with all the information on weather, holidays, places, and hotels to successfully plan the trip.

How we built it

We built the travel chatbot using Vertex AI Agent Builder, a platform that allowed us to create conversational AI agents. We integrated various APIs for weather, holidays, places, and hotels to gather real-time data and provide accurate information to users. Additionally, we utilized natural language processing (NLP) model "Gemini" to understand user inputs and respond effectively.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was integrating multiple APIs seamlessly into the chatbot platform. Each API had its own documentation and data format, which required careful coordination to ensure compatibility and accuracy.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have developed a robust and user-friendly travel chatbot that simplifies the trip planning process for users. By overcoming technical challenges and leveraging advanced AI technologies, we created a comprehensive solution that provides personalized travel recommendations and real-time information. Seeing the positive feedback from users (friends and family) who have used our chatbot to plan their trips has been incredibly rewarding.

What we learned

Google's Agent Builder is an easy-to-use tool enabling developers to build no/low code application. Using tools to ground the Agent's responses on the API calls.

What's next for Mārg-darśaka

Flight Booking Integration: We plan to enhance Mārg-darśaka by integrating a flight booking API, allowing users to search for and book flights directly within the chatbot. This feature will provide real-time flight information, prices, and availability, streamlining the booking process for users.

Transportation Assistance: In addition to flight booking, we aim to incorporate a transportation API to provide information on local transportation options. This feature will assist users in planning their travel from airports to accommodations and navigating their destination with ease.

Multilingual Support: To cater to an international audience, we intend to integrate a language translation API, enabling Mārg-darśaka to support multiple languages. This feature will enhance accessibility for users worldwide, allowing them to interact with the chatbot in their preferred language.

Currency Conversion: We plan to include real-time currency conversion rates within Mārg-darśaka to help users understand local prices and expenses in their home currency. This feature will assist travelers in budgeting and financial planning during their trips.

Dining Recommendations: To enhance the dining experience, we aim to integrate a restaurant and dining API, offering recommendations for local eateries based on user preferences. This feature will provide users with personalized dining options, including reviews, ratings, and menus.

Activity Booking: We plan to include features for discovering and booking local activities and events through Mārg-darśaka. By integrating an activity booking API, users will have access to a variety of experiences tailored to their interests and preferences.

Emergency Assistance: To ensure the safety and well-being of travelers, we intend to include features for accessing emergency assistance during travel. This will involve integrating an emergency assistance API to provide users with essential information, such as local emergency contacts and medical facilities.
