We decided to take a stab at new ways of data visualization. After seeing webpages like Twittervision discontinue, we thought about recreating a similar website but instead focus it on localized breaking news stories. Some sites, like breakingnews.com, have an activity heatmap, but this is not a dynamic process as the locations are manually inputted. So we tried making a live feed through RSS, which we soon found is an extremely complicated process (many brain cells were lost as we smashed our heads against the table) that we were not entirely prepared for. While we weren't able to exactly get a live feed, we were able to display the most recent articles from the LA Times on a customized Google map.
