How can we identify and quantify historical economic indicators, risk, and growth potential of space-related industries to develop investment strategies in space economy?
What it does
Measures the vulnerability and growth potential of industries based on fluctuations in the space economy and provide guidance to investors.
How we built it
We ran ordinary least squares regression on the real domestic gross product of all industries and the space economy, indentified the correlation coefficients, and used a sensitivity index to calculate a "vulnerability score" for each.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into some dilemmas when thinking about how to represent our industries on an index that had a wide range. We then decided to normalize values and bound our index 0 to 1 to make visual representations appear neater.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of going though several iterations of deciding the approach to our vulnerability index (personalizing to industry to standardizing for all).
What we learned
We were able to experience how a wide range of mathematical knowledge (statistics, linear algebra) could be applied real-time in our project. We also learned how to successfully generate a heatmap.
What's next for Mapping Space Industry Vulnerabilities and Growth Potential
We plan on expanding into an interactive predictive analysis tool for investors that's able to simulate wealth based on certain investments in certain industries in relation to the space economy.
