Inspiration Being provided with healthcare data from InterSystems gave us an idea to work on a healthcare-based project that could save lives.

What it does Our website displays current health problems around the United States and predicts how these problems could spread using neural networks. These predictions can then be provided to healthcare experts in order for them to implement the old saying, "Prevention is better than cure."

How we built it We used ReactJS and MaterialUI to build the front-end of the website and JavaScript to provide additional and essential functionality. In addition, we built a simple Neural Network using JavaScript. The current data and predicted data are graphically represented on the United States map. We obtained this data from Open APIs and InterSystems.

Challenges we ran into We faced challenges trying to obtain the correct data from the databases and also found it challenging to implement the math and the correct neural network functionality to have a prediction model.

Accomplishments that we're proud of We are able to implement the neural network that allowed us to predict the rate at which the health problems will spread. We were also able to display the density of the health problems on the United States Map.

What we learned We learned about how to improve time management, how to manage a team, how to get data from an API, neural networks and more advanced dynamical programming.

What's next for MappedOut With more and more diverse data around the world, MappedOut can be expanded into a global space. With additional data about different health problems and even environmental problems such as droughts and water shortages, MappedOut will be able to predict disasters before they happen. MappedOut will be able to save lives around the globe.
