Inspiration
Today's housing crisis has made access to affordable housing for many low-income families in America difficult and younger-age American Education is taking a direct hit. Up to 580,000+ Americans are experiencing homeless on any given night and only 1 in 4 extremely low-income children have shown concerningly low rates of academic achievement. MappED seeks to remove some of the obstacles that keep low-income families from being exposed to affordable by providing a tool that supplies them with information about more catering housing options.
What it does
Resolved Interactive tool that finds the most affordable housing regions according to income bracket and education needs.
How we built it
After brainstorming our idea and what possible features we could implement, we narrowed down our options to design a prototype that was feasible to build within a day then used Next.js to create it.
Challenges we ran into
Navigating the housing and district data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developing the front end of our site with most of the features we sought to create.
What we learned
Improved on our React skills; explored Palantir Foundry and tried incorporate our datasets
What's next for MappED.?
Moving forward we want to add more factors to the algorithm apart from education, and cost of living(income) like health. We also want to make the map visually precise to account for cities and districts, implement dynamic updates that change the data regularly, and feature to compare 2 or 3 counties side by side.
