Inspiration
Our inspiration was the simple convenience of having an app that can make a route specific for distances, especially for running.
What it does
Users input a distance they want to run or bike and our Google Maps API based algorithm generates unique routes that match the given distance from the user’s starting location.
How we built it
We utilized IntelliJ’s Android SDK system to work with both the front-end and back-end. For the former, we created a simplistic UI with IntelliJ’s UI system. On the back-end, for connecting XML files, we used Java. We implemented the Google Maps API into one of the pages with the public resources that Google provided for the functionality for our map.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges with the setup of IntelliJ's Android SDK as well as setting up the Google Maps API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have some functionality for our app and to have a well built UI.
What we learned
We learned that we should know more about the software we want to use before the hackathon as we could spend more time doing the project instead of setting up.
What's next for MapMyJog
Implementation of elevation and Points of Interests to customize routes based on user preferences Inclusion of external hiking trail API’s to expand route options Addition to Google Play library to reach wider audience
