Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project was the Code for A Cause prize track, in which we had to create an app that helps find nearby food banks. We added to this by making it crowdsourced and included two more maps.
What it does
It gives you a map using folium and has a way to input new markers in the program. We also included a website that links to all of the sites.
How we built it
We built it using the folium module and the pandas module in Python. We used Google Colab to render the maps and hosted the website using Replit.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a huge problem rendering the image on PyCharm and believe it was having a hard time connecting to the internet. We had to change our platform to Google Collab which was an already online platform to code. This worked really well and kept it like that.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of rendering the map and the fact that we are able to render a map using a csv file and adding to that.
What we learned
We learned more about HTML, CSS, JS, along with the folium module. We learned how to code and connect inputs, datasets, and maps.
What's next for MapIt
We will create more maps and connect them while also reaching out to the community for better results. We want to also include more priorities to the bigger organizations to help people find bigger results.
