Inspiration

We were inspired by how 1 in 4 individuals reported having a disability in the United States. We heard from differently abled people about how finding accessible places in Boston is inaccessible in its own way. We realized that many residents of Boston are unaware of 311 services city provides and often underutilize them due to their time consuming nature. Boston hosts a large population of expats and students who live here part time and the accessibility resources of the city is not greatly advertised to allow incomers to explore city without any barriers.

What it does

Our map combines multiple databases of accessible infrastructure in Boston as well as businesses, restaurants and cafes that another user rated on their experience on how accessible the place was to allow differently people to socialize without hardship. Some accessible infrastructure in city includes playgrounds, parks, ramps and service animal friendly institutions. We wanted our users to not only explore accessible options they have but also advocate for what they need. Our app features an AI Chatbot to allow the user to submit a 311 Accessibility Request with only providing some basic information. The request informs Boston mayorship that a differently-abled individual requested accessibility infrastructure at the address given and how urgent the request is.

How we built it

We used Visual Studio Code, Google Gemini, Pandas and multiple APIs provided by Boston.gov as well as some third party sources for the data. We only added one restaurant to demo our review features and found the restaurant through real ratings on accessible food places in Boston. Our team consisted of one experienced coder, one student who is familiar with coding and 2 students with no prior experience. All the frontend features and API research was made by the inexperienced team members and the other 2 team members collaborated on the backend. Our team end up all learning something from each other and explored a different passion.
