Inspiration

Asylum seekers often encounter challenges in accessing essential services, including food, education, medical care, and workforce training.

What it does

This project aims to assist asylum seekers in locating essential services by allowing users to input their zip code and select the respective service button. Subsequently, the locations will be displayed on a map, enabling users to easily find the services they require.

How we built it

We utilized JavaScript, CSS, and HTML to develop the website and seamlessly integrated it with the Google Maps API to provide real-time services.Additionally, the Google Translate service have been integrated to cater to users who feel more comfortable using their native language.

Challenges we ran into

In the initial stages, team members engaged in debates to determine the most crucial services for asylum seekers, recognizing the challenges faced as immigrants themselves upon arriving in America. It became apparent that immigrants have diverse needs, making it challenging to prioritize essential services for asylum seekers.

Secondly, during the development process, difficulties arose due to outdated documentation in the Google Maps API. This unexpected hurdle made development more complex than anticipated.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We firmly believe that the services we provide address the most critical needs of asylum seekers, and we are optimistic that our platform will serve as a stepping stone for their success in America.

What we learned

Through our discussions, we have learned to collaborate more effectively as a team, express our individual ideas, and strive to find compromises. These discussions have also served as a reminder of the challenges we faced when initially settling in another country and how far we have come since then.

What's next for Map Services

We are committed to enhancing our map service to provide users with a more diverse, robust, and detailed experience.
