Inspiration

I wanted Google Maps but filled with my notes and photos. There were ways to do it, but the process was clunky and my notes weren't shown on the map.

What it does

Map memos lets you add notes to the map. You can place a pin anywhere or tap any of the point of interest icons on the map itself to add a note to it.

How we built it

I built it on iOS using vanilla SwiftUI and MapKit and, of course, RevenueCat for the IAP.

Challenges we ran into

Learning SwiftUI (again). I was building apps using higher level frameworks like The Composable Architecture. First time building an actual app with system frameworks only.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Seamless MapKit integration. People can tap and save points of interest on the MapKit map, complete with the original images and colors of that place.

What we learned

Building quickly using system frameworks is now possible with all the advances in Swift & SwiftUI. No need to complicate my app with heavyweight stuff like TCA when shipping fast as a solo dev is the goal.

What's next for Map Memos

Photo support, App Intent / Siri support.
