Inspiration
** MANGO HACKS ** Nothing screams hardware hack for mango hacks a system for hacked mangos. We wanted to find the best way to incorporate all of our expertise into one system that was in spirit of the event, and after lots of simulation and numbercrunching, the fruit of our labor uses mangos as a key component.
What it does
It's a game system that uses mangos for controllers, the goal is to race your friends in one of three game modes to select: In "Free" mode, play for fun and tap mangos to your hearts content ; In "Finite" mode, race and tap up to a goal of 100 taps to win ; In "Frantic" mode test your speed and endurance in a race to tap the mango as many times in 60 seconds!.
How we built it
We used the arduino in combination with the Grove Shield and LCD to create a system that measures the capacitance in mangos and reads for changes from touch.
Challenges we ran into
We were a bit stuck up on some hardware issues, the LCD's didn't function as expected and led to problems we couldn't fix. We also had a redesign for the end product a few times and had to rewrite the code several times over. Materials for a physical system were scarce so we tried our best to scrap what we could for use.
Keeping away from the tempting mangos proved the most challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Incorporating Mangos as a core piece of the project and not an accessory. Completing a more hardware oriented hack this time. Having fun.
What we learned
Inspiration and oppportunity comes from the strangest of places. Sometimes it just takes some mangos and a little bit of enginuity to be successful.
What's next for Mango Taps
Better looking containers and better displays for the game. More accurate sensors to construct.
