Inspiration

The global health pandemic caused by the COVID-19 Coronavirus and the impact it has had on everyone's life inspired us to think about how we can use the technology to support the roll-out of the vaccination for the community.

What it does

The solution helps the community members to easily check their eligibility, provide supporting information and make vaccination booking all in one go. Community members can use a web browser, third party such as AusPost, local GP or their mobile devices to access the application from anywhere and get a confirmation in the form of an email along with a QR code that will be used at the Vaccine centre for patient registration.

How we built it

We have used Pega App studio to build this App.

The following functions are built as part of App: Web App, Chatbot, Mobile App, QR code Generation, Email sent out to customer

Challenges we ran into

As a developer, we found that Pega App studio functionality is limited to support the non-technical user to easily develop an application. Chatbot functionality was new for the team and we spend some time learning the functionality before able to use it. As the COVID vaccine rollout is in the early stage the pre-check and process are not defined the application may need some changes in future.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a developer, we always felt dev studio is an easy option to develop an application but we were excited to develop an App without coding in a week time. COVID vaccination booking management is an omnichannel application that can be accessed from a different platform such as web, mobile app and also provide a chatbot option to guide users to make a booking. We are very excited as we are solving the social problem by using technology.

What we learned

We have learnt how easily we can develop App using Pega App studio and expose them to the end-user. Learnt about the different covid vaccine available, prerequisite required for vaccine and the time duration need between each dose.

What's next for COVID Vaccination Management System

As part of MVP2, the solution also let the users modify or cancel their booking, keep a record of their vaccination that will serve as a vaccine passport once integrated with the Department of Immigration and external govt. Agencies for the purpose of domestic as well as international travel. The system will suggest the closest vaccination centre based on their location. the solution can be enhanced by integrating with Google or Apple maps to show the vaccination centre locations and provide navigation options. The chatbot can be enhanced to provide any technical support users may need.
