Inspiration
We've always been fascinated by the intersection of technology and mindfulness. The constant barrage of digital distractions in today's world made me realize the need for tools that can help us find peace and focus amidst the chaos. Drawing from my own struggles with staying productive and maintaining a sense of calm, This app is inspired by Pomodoro Technique which is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo. We felt inspired to create a solution that combines the effectiveness of the Pomodoro Technique with the tranquility of Zen principles.
What it does
In the world of addiction, whether you spend hours scrolling your infinite social media feed, wander down the YouTube rabbit hole, or browse the web, it's hard to disconnect from the online world. The constant notifications from the annoying apps on our devices make it tough to unplug. Here Manas Shakti came in use which helps you to focus on your work and blocks all the unnecessary distractions, It gives you a calm Environment to Work. The aim of this extension is to help you focus on any task you are working on, such as study, writing, or coding.
How we built it
We built it by inspired from Pomodoro Technique. The Pomodoro Technique is created by Francesco Cirillo for a more productive way to work and study. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. Each interval is known as a pomodoro, from the Italian word for 'tomato', after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer that Cirillo used as a university student.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges We encountered was balancing simplicity with functionality. We wanted the extension to be easy to use and unobtrusive, but we also needed to provide enough features to make it effective. Finding the right balance between these competing priorities required careful consideration and iteration. Additionally, implementing features like site blocking and timer functionality posed technical challenges, particularly in terms of compatibility and performance across different browsers and operating systems. However, overcoming these challenges ultimately helped me grow as a developer and refine my skills.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have successfully developed the "Manas Shanti" extension, creating a tool that can genuinely assist individuals in enhancing their focus and productivity. The combination of the Pomodoro Technique with features like distraction-blocking has resulted in a holistic solution for users seeking a more mindful and concentrated work environment.
What we learned
Building the "Manas Shanti" extension taught me a great deal about both technical and human aspects. On the technical side, I honed my skills in web development, learning how to leverage JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to create a seamless user experience. Beyond the technical aspects, I gained insights into user experience design and the psychology of behavior change. Understanding how to design interfaces that are intuitive and user-friendly, as well as how to motivate users to adopt new habits, was invaluable.
What's next for Manas Shanti
During the creation of "Manas Shanti," we improved our web development skills, mastering JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. We seamlessly integrated libraries for features like site blocking and timers, learning how to handle compatibility challenges across various platforms These lessons go beyond "Manas Shanti" and lay the groundwork for our future projects. With a better grasp of both technical and human aspects, we're ready to tackle challenges in a well-rounded way. The knowledge gained will shape our future endeavors, ensuring a blend of technical excellence and user-focused design.
