Inspiration

Our main inspiration came from a everyday frustration we’ve all felt: needing a specific kind of facility like a toilet with a bidet, a water cooler, or a nursing room and having no reliable way to check if one is nearby and actually meets our needs. Existing map apps point to generic pins, but they miss the specific details that matter and are often outdated. We wanted to build something community-verified that gets smarter as more people use it. The name ManaGo comes from the Malay word mana (“where”) paired with “go” — a nod to the simple question behind the app: where do I go for what I need? Small, overlooked amenities can make a big difference in someone’s day, and we wanted ManaGo to ensure people find exactly what they need, when they need it.

What it does

  • ManaGo is a Singapore-focused web app that helps users locate essential everyday amenities that generic maps gloss over.
  • Explore & Filter: Users can browse an interactive map or list, filtering specifically for bidets, water coolers, and nursing rooms.
  • Live Turn-by-Turn Navigation: Offers walking, cycling, and driving routes with live GPS recalculation to guide users straight to the amenity.
  • Crowdsourced & Verified: Users can leave star ratings, tags, and reviews, or submit new facility listings with floor details, accessibility notes, and photos.
  • Quality Control: An admin approval dashboard screens all new community submissions and manages reviews to keep data accurate and reliable.

How we built it

  • Frontend & Design: Built with Next.js (App Router), React, Tailwind CSS
  • Authentication: Managed via Clerk for user sign-in and role-based access control (admin vs. regular user).
  • Database & Storage: Supabase (Postgres + Storage) handles facility data, user reviews, and photo uploads, secured with Row Level Security and Next.js Server Actions.
  • Mapping & Location Services: Mapbox GL for interactive maps, Mapbox Geocoding for Singapore address search, and Mapbox Directions API for live routing.
  • Data & Deployment: Seeded with a curated dataset of hundreds of local Singapore amenities hosted on Vercel with GitHub Actions CI.

Challenges we ran into

Our team initially struggled to identify a problem that was both meaningful and achievable within the project's scope. We also had to differentiate our solution from existing platforms by incorporating additional features. Integrating the various features into a cohesive application proved challenging, as it required extensive testing and debugging to ensure that components worked seamlessly together, especially with Clerk and Mapbox API. These experiences strengthened our problem-solving skills and highlighted the importance of careful planning, iterative testing, and user-centered design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we shipped a fully working, deployed product using Mapbox, Supabase, and Next.js. We built a complete geolocation-to-directions pipeline, handling live location tracking, performant map rendering with many markers, and real walking directions to the nearest amenity. We also turned messy, scattered data from community Google Maps/Sheets, OpenStreetMap, and curated directories into a clean, consistent Supabase/Postgres schema covering 607 verified facilities across Singapore (347 bidet toilets, 207 water coolers, and 53 nursing rooms), backed by repeatable cleaning and seeding scripts rather than manual one-offs. On top of that, we built a live database to support user-generated reviews and shipped a real production deployment pipeline with GitHub Actions CI, safely managed secrets across environments, and Vercel deployment with Lighthouse audits.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained valuable experience in integrating third-party services like Clerk and Mapbox to accelerate and elevate our application’s core features. We developed a comprehensive understanding of the full software development lifecycle, building a project from initial concept to completion. Working across both front-end and back-end stacks as a team strengthened our collaboration, teaching us how to align on technical implementations, brainstorm cross-functional ideas, and effectively prioritise high-value features under project constraints.

What's next for ManaGo

  • Public Transportation Navigation: Expand our turn-by-turn routing—which currently covers walking, cycling, and driving—to include public transit options (bus and MRT routes) for better accessibility across Singapore.
  • Expanded Amenity Categories: Include more specialized micro-amenities like wheelchair-accessible ramps, quiet working spaces, and public power outlets.
  • Real-time Facility Status: Allow users to submit real-time updates on facility conditions (e.g., out of order, under maintenance, or cleanliness levels).

Judges: Please sign up with your real email. Regular features work right away. To test admin features, message us your signup email via telegram to @alanantoknee or @pearlyinae so we can promote one of you to admin in Clerk.
