Inspiration

Our inspiration started when we consulted an outside opinion within the healthcare field. They informed us of an issue with post-doctor-visit care due to their extensive experience in the field.

What it does

We created an app that provides information to patients about how to approach their health after their doctor visits. Our app will provide information on patient medications, just from the information on their bottles, and check their insurance coverages to help limit costs by providing generic alternatives. It will also send reminders to take medications, help patients navigate interactions between drugs, and, most importantly, provide an AI chatbot where patients can ask generic health questions. This AI chatbot is specifically designed to provide generic information about post-doctor-visit care.

How we built it

Because our app is going to be an app and a website, we chose to use an innovative new language called Taipy. This is a Python-based language that can run websites. Our leading-edge AI chatbot was developed using Langchain. This way we can provide information on medications, offer information on health conditions, and allow the patient to contact their doctor if they need medical care. This way patients can have access to health information anytime and anywhere.

Challenges we ran into

The first challenge we ran into was figuring out how to approach a solution. Do we provide a solution in the hospital, at home, for patients, or for doctors and hospitals? After speaking to an expert in the field, we chose to tackle a solution for patients at home. This way we can help patients and aid their safety directly. Another challenge we ran into was getting familiar with Taipy. Because this is a new language, we had not worked with it before. We ended up trying to get Flask and Taipy to work together. It was a struggle to figure out how to get them to work together. But after some hard work, we used threading and different servers to get our website up and running.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

After many hours, and a lot of hard work, we were able to get our website up and running. Because none of us had any experience with Taipy, there were many challenges that we had to overcome. We are extremely proud of our accomplishments in learning this new, innovative language, and especially in getting Auth0 and Flask working within the website. We are also proud of our accomplishment of including AI in our product which allows patients to get immediate answers to their questions and aid in streamlining healthcare.

What we learned

The biggest thing that we learned was the interactions and interworkings of Taipy. Figuring out the language and how to incorporate Flask and especially Auth0 were two big challenges that we had to do a lot of research in order to overcome. We also learned how to incorporate AI into a website and a lot about the interworkings of the healthcare system.

What's next for ManagMed

Our next steps are to incorporate more information into our app. To get this information we need to get approved for GoodRx and RxNorm. These are two websites with large health databases and can help us provide more information for our customers. This would mean we can then gain access to medications and drug interactions as well as drug prices and generic versions which could be cheaper for patients.
