Inspiration
Mama’s Care is something that is very dear to my heart. My mom raised me alone, and I grew up to see how much strength, sacrifice and effort it takes to handle responsibilities without always having someone to turn to. Her journey made me think of all the women who become pregnant and have to manage their health, their day to day and their emotional stability, often without the right amount of help. I wanted to do something meaningful that could make this journey a little easier for expecting mothers, especially those living alone or with limited support.
What it does
Mama’s Care is a pregnancy care platform to help expectant mothers to track their daily routines and to access vital pregnancy information. Our planned and developing features include medicine reminders, nutrition and meal planning, sleep tracking, checkup reminders, health tips and quick access to emergency assistance. We want to use technology to make pregnancy care easier, more organized and convenient and to help mothers feel more supported along the way.
How we built it
We are developing Mama’s Care using React, TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, Express.js, and MySQL. React and TypeScript support the user interface, Node.js and Express.js handle backend functionality, and MySQL is used for structured data storage. As a team, we are focusing on creating a simple, user-friendly experience that makes essential pregnancy-care features easy to access. My contribution includes frontend development, feature implementation, and collaborative problem-solving.
Challenges we ran into
One of our greatest challenges has been to distilll a broad but sensitive problem into actionable features without complicating the application. We also need to make sure the interface is user-friendly, the different components of the application are well integrated, and that health-related information is presented in a responsible manner.
“We are solving these issues by focusing on key features, improving the experience for users and building the platform incrementally.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned
Working on Mama’s Care has shown us that building a useful product is more than just coding. We learned how to think about the real life needs of the users, how to design intuitive interfaces, how to organize the features of the application and how to work as a team. In addition, we acquired hands-on experience working with frontend technologies, back-end development and database integration.
Above all, this project has taught us to approach technology with empathy. Behind every feature is a real person who may need reassurance, timely information or a bit of extra help.
What's next for Mama's Care
Mama's Care is more than just a technical project for me. It's a way of taking something that is very personal to me and turning it into something that could actually be of benefit to others. My mum's experience has been one of the most formative things in my life in terms of what strength, what care and what support actually means. Through Mama's Care I hope to use technology to help expectant mothers feel less isolated and more empowered at a time when they're going through one of the most important periods of their lives.
Because every mother deserves to be looked after as much as the father does. 💗
