Project Writeup
After analyzing the data provided by Giovanni for Pizzeria Mamma Mia, we have created the following recommendations to improve overall order time, customer satisfaction, and profit:
For delivery orders, take payment online as the order is made - We have found that the time between a pizza’s arrival at its destination and the customer payment is an extremely time-consuming part of the process. We feel that this time can result in the next order being slightly delayed, which will cause the pizza to be colder for the next customer. We recommend payment to be made as the customer places the order online (or through the phone) in order to decrease the time spent between pizza arrival and customer payment.
Set a radius limit on delivery orders - We noticed that many customers live in a location that results in a large amount of time between pizza departure from Pizzeria Mamma Mia and pizza arrival at its destination. We feel that this may cause the pizza to get colder during the long drive, and could be a cause of lower customer satisfaction. We believe that setting a radius limit would increase customer satisfaction, as more customers would receive their pizza at a much hotter temperature due to the shortened delivery times. Furthermore, this would also decrease the costs on delivery scooters, as less gas would be used in the delivery process.
Improve the Pizzeria Mamma Mia Website - We notice that it takes about six minutes for a customer to place an order on the website, takes an additional minute for the order to be approved, and takes another six minutes for the restaurant to receive the order. It then requires the restaurant to call the customer to provide them with the order confirmation. We feel that the website could be improved in several ways to decrease the time of the order. Firstly the website should allow the restaurant to receive the order instantly, rather than resulting in a delay between the customer placing the order and the restaurant receiving it. Furthermore, the website should automatically send out confirmation emails, rather than the restaurant calling the customer to confirm each order.
Eliminate Phone Orders - We noticed that there are 193 cases in which the Phone Bill is the leading cost factor of an order. This cost can easily be decreased by removing phone orders and switching to only online or in-person orders. This will result in improved profits for the Pizzeria, as it will cause the cost to create the order to decrease.
Decrease the Salaries of Chef 2 and Delivery Guy 2 to Match Chef 1 and Delivery Guy 1 - Chef 2 has only generated $274 more in total profit than Chef 1, yet Chef 2 has resulted in $1213 more in total cost than Chef 1. Similarly, Delivery Guy 2 has only generated $427 more in total profit than Delivery Guy 1, yet Delivery Guy 2 has caused $1136 more in total costs than Delivery Guy 1. We believe that managing the costs of Chef 2 and Delivery Guy 2 to make them more similar to Chef 1 and Delivery Guy 1’s costs would be extremely beneficial and reasonable for Giovanni to increase profits in his Pizzeria.

Inspiration
We decided to join TAMU Datathon 2021 because of our prior interest in data science, as well as to challenge ourselves and gain useful experience in that field.
What it does
Our project provides feedback on the Mama Mia Pizzeria business model, pinpoints problem areas, and gives feedback on ways to improve the process (time, customer satisfaction, and profits).
How we built it
Our project is hosted on the Celonis data-processing software.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we faced was learning to navigate Celonis' software, as it was our first time using the system.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of completing a challenge during our first datathon!
What we learned
We learned more about data analysis and how Celonis can be utilized for process mining, as well as learning to navigate the new software we were exposed to.
What's next for Mama Mia Pizzeria: Celonis TAMU Datathon Challenge 2021
Going forward, we will continue to expand our knowledge in the Celonis data processing software using this project as a model.
