Inspiration

Cybersecurity threats such as suspicious files, unsafe links , and weak passwords can affect every day users. I wanted to create a simple that helps users to understand these common security risks without requiring advanced cybersecurity knowledge.

What it does

MalwareGuard is a beginner-friendly cybersecurity awareness and basic security analysis tool. It provides quick checks for suspicious file types, potentially unsafe URLs, and password strength.

How we built it

I built MalwareGuard using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The project has a simple dashboard with multiple security tools:

  • File Scanner checks file extensions for potentially suspicious types.
  • URL Security checks whether a URL uses HTTPS and looks for common suspicious patterns.
  • Password Security evaluates password strength using length, uppercase/lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Quick Security Check provides a simple overall security check.
  • Scan history and security recommendations help users understand their previous checks and improve their security habits.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was designing useful security checks while keeping the project simple and understandable for beginners. I also had to make the interface easy to navigate and present security results clearly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of building a working cybersecurity awareness prototype from scratch. MalwareGuard brings multiple useful security checks, including suspicious file detection, URL security analysis, password strength checking, and quick security checks, into one simple and beginner-friendly application.

What we learned

While building this project, I learned how HTML, CSS, and JavaScript can be combined to create an interactive cybersecurity application. I also learned that security tools need to clearly communicate their limitations and should not claim to provide protection that they do not actually perform.

What's next for MalwareGaurd

In the future, MalwareGuard could be expanded with real file hashing, threat-intelligence APIs, stronger URL analysis, and more advanced security detection methods.

NOTE

MalwareGuard is an education prototype and is not a replacement for professional antivirus software.
