✨ Inspiration CuratedMaps was born out of a personal need. As a new parent, I was constantly searching for playgrounds, cafés with kids’ corners, and family-friendly spots — but the best tips were scattered across Instagram profiles, private Google Maps lists, or just hidden in people’s heads.
This made me realize something bigger: many creators already curate amazing location-based content — foodies, parents, locals, travelers — but they have no proper way to share or monetize it. Some use tools like Notion, Patreon, or even HeroHero, others invest in expensive custom apps. There’s no dedicated platform for geo-based curation.
🗺 What it does CuratedMaps is a creator-powered marketplace for curated location lists.
For users:
Explore maps curated by real people
Favorite maps and places
Track what you’ve visited or plan to visit
Combine multiple maps in one view
For creators:
Create and publish custom maps with ease
Share your local know-how or niche expertise (e.g. “Best Matcha Cafés in Prague”)
(Coming soon) Monetize your maps via built-in Stripe integration
🔧 How I built it The project is built as a cross-platform app (mobile + web) using:
Frontend: Expo (React Native), Next.js (React), Tamagui, Tailwind CSS
Backend: Supabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, RLS, Storage)
Maps & APIs: Mapbox (web + mobile), Google Places API
Automation: OpenAI + Bolt.new for AI-assisted development
CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Vercel, Supabase
I iterated piece by piece using AI tools like ChatGPT and Bolt.new, often restarting the project due to context window limits. Despite that, this process allowed for very rapid prototyping.
As a digital designer, I’m aiming for a polished UI/UX experience — inspired by platforms like Airbnb — but the current visuals are still in their early functional state.
🧩 Challenges I ran into Stripe integration is still in progress due to edge-case handling (subscriptions, payouts)
Designing a system where a place can live in multiple maps, and still be individually tracked
Navigating limitations of AI development platforms (especially context size in Bolt)
🏆 Accomplishments that I'm proud of End-to-end functional prototype
Fully structured design system foundation (Tamagui + Tailwind)
Supabase-powered user interaction tracking (favorites, planned, visited)
Built for real-world use cases (e.g., maps for parents, foodies, locals)
📚 What I learned AI-assisted development can be incredibly powerful when paired with structured design thinking
Building marketplace products requires a dual mindset: empowering creators and delighting consumers
Designing for geo-content means going beyond location — intent and context matter too
🚀 What's next for CuratedMaps Final Stripe integration for creator monetization
Public creator pages with bundled maps
Reminders and smart notifications (e.g., “Remind me when nearby”)
Higher visual polish to match top-tier apps
Rich filtering and discovery features
