Inspiration

Creating narrated short videos often involves separate tools for scripts, voiceovers, captions, visuals, and editing. MakeShort brings these steps into one online workflow.

What it does

MakeShort turns Reddit stories, written scripts, and chat-style conversations into narrated short videos. Creators can adjust voice, subtitle, and visual styles, preview their work, and export MP4 videos for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels.

How it is built

MakeShort uses Next.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL. Its browser-based workflow combines AI narration, synchronized captions, background footage, and music, with dedicated editors for Reddit stories, scripts, and chat conversations.

About the project

MakeShort was founded by independent developer XingYu Chen in January 2026. Based in Hong Kong, it began as a full-time project with a solo founder and now has a team of three. It is bootstrapped and offers a free starting option alongside paid subscription plans.
