Inspiration
I am a digital manufacturing newbie, I started Makerbae last year to raise awareness of the possibilities for women in Manufacturing.
The 30 Earrings Challenge is a personal challenge I took on for the Baltimore Hackathon to make 30 earrings this weekend.
What it does
Wearable earrings that are 3d printable.
How I built it
My project was built with Fusion 360, 3D modeling software, I referenced trending earring designs and looked to focus on the building blocks of each design, breaking each design down and rebuilding it.
Challenges I ran into
I am just starting out with Fusion 360, I wanted to use this event as an opportunity to put all the small things I learned in recent weeks, into one project. I also realized creating 30 earrings would be a bit ambitious to complete in this timeframe but I am happy with what I have so far.
- Sculpting 3d squares and the Torus shape way harder than it looks.
- Animating the design in Fusion 360
- Creating the earring clasp that makes the earring wearable
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The Chanel Earrings and Heart Earrings are my favorite. As I worked on each piece I started to come u with workflow and began to better understand how to use Fusion 360.
I didn't make 30 earrings however I managed to complete 9 awesome 3d printable pieces.
What I learned
I learned how to use fusion 360.
What's next for MakerBae
I plan to continue learning the tool and iterate on my designs. Eventually, I will print them when I get my prototypes solid. As a means of not creating waste, I am looking for environmentally friendly ways of producing prototypes.
