Inspiration

Designers often spend countless hours crafting designs manually in Figma, followed by another long stretch translating them into code. Makeitly was born to eliminate that repetitive cycle—empowering designers and developers to instantly generate high-quality designs and functional code using AI, while also allowing export to Figma or Bolt for continued work and iteration.

What it does

Makeitly is an AI-powered design assistant that transforms text prompts into fully structured designs and clean, responsive code. Users can generate visuals, export them to Figma, convert them to code, or send them directly to Bolt for rapid, collaborative development, all in a few clicks.

How we built it

We built Makeitly using Bolt, a visual development platform powered by React. At its core, the system runs on the Gemini API, which handles design generation, code creation, and intelligent responses for design feedback. The workflow is optimized for speed, scalability, and easy integration.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was ensuring the AI-generated designs met modern UI/UX standards. To address this, we fine-tuned our prompting and interaction with the Gemini API, focusing on better design understanding, context modeling, and output alignment with UI best practices.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’ve successfully built a system that turns prompts into full design/code packages with working outputs. We’ve also enabled chat-based feedback through our AI design assistant, providing users with design suggestions, layout improvements, and real-time idea generation, all powered by AI.

What we learned

High-quality context modeling significantly improves design and code outputs, especially when aligned with established UI principles. We also learned that fast iteration cycles and tight user feedback loops are essential to building a usable and powerful AI design tool.

What's next for Makeitly

We’re expanding Makeitly by integrating with popular developer platforms like Cursor, adding support for models like Claude, and opening up even more export pathways. Our vision is to create a unified, AI-first pipeline from idea to interface to implementation, with minimal friction and maximum creativity.
