Inspiration

The inspiration for this project was to help educate our family about finances, and thus we decided to make a fun, little simulation about handling finances!

What it does

This simulation begins where the user has to choose between different tiers of schools, and depending on the tier they choose, that will determine their monthly income and the amount of debt they will have to pay off. Once a user has chosen a school, they will have to manage their finances accordingly, and there will be mini lessons which a user can view by clicking on the gold circles with white question marks. The user will handle different factors that are usually found in real life, such as utilities, technology, housing, and other factors. There are different made-up stocks that the user can invest in, and they will learn how the stock market operates. The user will make decisions each month and complete quests so that they reach the final quest: having 3 million dollars in money. Once the user has completed this quest, they win the simulation!

How we built it

We built this game through the code editor VS code, and used bootstrap for the HTML, CSS, and JS library.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges that we ran into was making the graph for showing the financials over time, the chart of the growth or shrink of the stocks, and as well as the mini lesson on managing investments.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of making the graphs and charts, and as well as making a clean look for the simulation and a cohesive color palette. In addition, we’re proud of making information mini lessons so that people can gain a better understanding of different aspects of finances.

What we learned

We learned how to incorporate graphs into our code, and how to better utilize bootstrap and understand many of its capabilities.

What's next for Make It Rain (Or Don't)

For the continual advancement of Make It Rain (Or Don’t), we plan to incorporate more schools so that there’s a greater range of schools to choose from. In addition, incorporate more stocks or connect the real world stock market, so that users can fully experience what the real stock market functions as.
