FöBiT - Förderung für Kinder und Jugendliche leicht gemacht!

Inspiration

After interviews with multiple stakeholders of the educational system, we were shocked about the missing support socially weak children are faced. Our interviews concluded, that mostly parents are motivated to help their children having the same chances as others, but they are helpless with the bureaucracy infrastructure that is given right now in Germany. Our economic and informatics background made it possible for us to bring together the customer needs and the technological solutions.

What it does

Our app solution enhances the chance equality for all students by making usage of the technology, that truly everybody has nowadays - a smartphone. Our app solution should help families with children in school age to find the right public funds and to fill in the application in the right way, so that it can be managed to minimize the bureaucratic effort. That leads to an eased entrance to public funds. Therefor, children can be supported in their way of experiencing education, influencing the chance equality in a positive way.

How we built it

Since we started from the scratch, we were not able to define a first prototype within the short timeframe. To secure the characteristics, we designed a fully implementable concept.

Challenges we ran into

As we all were working full time next to the challenge, we had the challenge to find time slots, which we could use as a team to work on the solution. Moreover it was the first time, that we took part in an event like that. We therefor had to really understand at first what was expected by us and our work. Another challenge was that we are currently not part of the school educational system anymore. Therefor, the realistic insights were missing in the beginning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Although we had a high workload, we managed to arrange about 20 interviews to get deep insights into the educational system and its characteristics. We were therefor able to identify and classify multiple challenges, that we could not all address in the short timeframe. We are proud, that we managed to decide as a team, which specific challenge we wanted to dive deep into. At first, we did not think to draft something executable that fast. When we finished our concept, we were highly surprised how solutions can be developed.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the current status of the school educational system in Germany and saw, that they can learn a lot from the technological infrastructure and project management skills of private businesses. Moreover, we personally had the chance to take part in a hackathon, which was a new experience for us.

What's next for Make Chancengleichheit great (again)!

As the conceptual draft is already finalized, we are ready to start programming the first version of our solution. It is in the starting stage, but we are willing to further accompany the project to its first testing version of the pretotype in order to truly test the user acceptance before starting to really develop a solution.
