Inspiration

Our project draws inspiration from our shared love for simulation games and pastry making. We aimed to combine the excitement of managing a business with the cozy satisfaction of crafting desserts, creating a tycoon-style experience where players bake sweets to earn money.

What it does

Players manage a bakery by producing goods from scratch, gathering ingredients, processing them with machines, and completing customer orders. The gameplay loop includes collecting resources, combining ingredients to create recipes, earning money, and unlocking upgrades or new materials. As the game progresses, recipes grow more complex, requiring intermediate ingredients and strategic upgrades that enhance both difficulty and satisfaction.

How we built it

We created 3D assets in Maya and hand-painted them in Substance Painter, optimizing textures in Photoshop. The user interface was designed in Procreate and Clip Studio Paint. Gameplay was scripted in TypeScript using a modular system so every team member could contribute easily. GenAI tools helped us prototype assets, textures, and sounds, allowing us to focus more on refining gameplay and visuals.

Challenges we ran into

Time management was our biggest obstacle. Balancing texture quality and performance, and ensuring machine logic functioned smoothly, also pushed our technical problem-solving. Another major challenge was optimizing performance. We didn’t have enough time to refine asset spawning or centralize event handling, which would have improved both frame stability and maintainability.

Accomplishments we’re proud of

We’re proud of creating a polished, cohesive prototype that feels engaging despite limited time. The production chain and visuals make it rewarding to play, and every member’s unique input made the project truly collaborative.

What we learned

We gained experience in using TypeScript for games, task coordination, and troubleshooting as a team. We also improved in gameplay systems, scripting interactions, and optimizing user experience. From a technical standpoint, we learned how crucial early performance planning is: optimizing object spawning and event management could have significantly boosted efficiency and scalability.

What’s next

Future updates will include bakery customization, a player marketplace for trading, and progression systems with XP, levels, and unlockable cosmetics to enrich the game’s long-term appeal.
