Inspiration
We wanted to make an app that would not only encourage people to make more eco friendly choices, but to also make it fun.
What it does
This web app encourages users to use less resources and be more mindful of our own impact. Encourages users to use less plastic and reduce carbon emissions.
How we built it
Programmed in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Utilized Replit and Discord for real-time contributions.
Challenges we ran into
HTML and time. None of us are experts with web design, so we underestimated how much we could accomplish within the time constraint while still attending meetings. However, Bridget took the lead on the design and we quickly adapted.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Bridget: I really proud that I could get the CSS and front end of the website up. I had minimal experience with CSS before this hackathon. Leslie: Since this is my first hackathon, I found it very exciting, but also intimidating. I proud to bring an amazing concept to life with team members I just meet this morning haha. I contributed to the plastic bottle aspect and the badge pages (that was sadly removed due to time). John: Car emission calculations.
What we learned
As mentioned in the challenges section, we were familiar with html, css, and javascript. However, we quickly learned that the difficult part of web development was the tedious aspect of it. Html itself is straightforward, but you have to program every aspect of the website which becomes easier over time.
What's next for Make a Difference. Track Your Impact.
Adapt to better more user friendly and modern. In the future it can be converted into a mobile app for better accessibility.
