Inspiration

The first thing people usually do when visiting a new city, is to search in Google for "What to do in..". However, most of them will never perform the same action in their hometowns. This is because, they know them better than Google does and thus they will come up doing other activities during the day. What about a place where well-known tourist activities get combined with user-driven recommended activities for what to do in a city? And what about of putting them together by planning a day's schedule and share it with the community?

What it does

Makaday recommends you things to do in cities, plan a day full of activities then share it. Recommendations come from users of Makaday as well from various sources from the web.

How we built it

We scraped Songkick for concerts, usgang.ch for parties and Starticket for events then aggregated them into one API. Our React Native App then displays them alongside activities that other users have done and recommended previously by sharing their days.

Challenges we ran into

Creating a good UX using React Native takes a lot of effort and digging into the low-level.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a minimum viable product that runs on real data. Plus, we built a cool UI for selecting the activities.

What we learned

We've learned about the in and outs of web scraping and building a React Native app.

What's next for Makaday

We want to finish the app and actually launch the app in the App Store!
