Inspiration
We empathize and imagine ourselves in the shoes of lawyers in a law firm and also the client perspective. Three key pain points articulated. Firstly, there is a large syndicate of banks in the law firms work which would mean time-consuming for fee letter generation. Secondly, the danger of human error is always present. Thirdly, accidentally showing bank competitor's fee.
We are inspired by the Lady Justice symbolism of objectivity and we apply it to our sample data in automating letter. To ensure objectivity and accuracy and time saving in this digital age. The lady justice will shine in our digital age as an inspiration!
What it does
Upload excel sheet, it go through the row of data and it get auto-filled into the template. This help lawyer and law firm to save time as the fee letter get automated. The lawyer just have to format the excel sheet with the right data which our solution Majulah Automater like the Lady Justice sword would slash through the onerous data to generate a clean Fee Letter without any human error.
How we built it
We created a server and link it to HTML that provides an interface for the user to upload the excel sheet which the server retrieves the excel sheet. Automate the data and generate the invoice, which then get send back as a zip file which will be secure for the user to download.
Challenges we ran into
The algorithm to generate the file. Understanding the problem statement as even for a law student, we do not have frontline experience in debt market transaction work. Integrating case and legislative data can be challenging too since our project focus solely on automation. Nonetheless, we utilize PDPA legislative data from LexisNexis. Furthermore, due to COVID-19 context, online meetup is a challenge in terms of communication and our team diverse and brilliant idea which we integrate and harmonize. We view this challenge with pride and enjoy overcoming them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Manage to deploy the website for demo. Get the download and zipping of files working. Overall, as team leader I am proud of my teammate Joey and Shaundre hardworking and perseverance in this 3 days Hackathon despite all our busy schedule juggling school. We have fun overall as a team.
What we learned
Even for 2 of our teammate who are developers, we find it challenging at the beginning to find a common ground as we have different skills set and way of coding etc. But once we hit it off and harmonize, we are able to progress.
Teamwork makes the dream work.
What's next for Majulah Automater
We will allow for customization to law firm. Dynamic data set, processing more data and unexpected variables (due to 3 day hackathon time constraint)
Allows tracking of lawyer’ billable hours & specific cases. QR code on letter scan to verify authenticity. Unique case ID (law firm/client). Macro-level analysis of lawyer hours and cases to generate a trend or understanding of law firm needs and in demand type of cases e.g. debt market transactions.
Ensure confidential data is secure & verifiable (soft copy password encrypted invoice)
