Inspiration

Looking back at the current problem of the world, the core of it would be education and people who do not know what they want to do in their lives. The current solution helps, but not as much as we need. On the other hand, 37% of high schoolers struggle to just choose what they want. If only there is another way to guide them so that they will have a better future.

What it does

Help high schoolers by giving them questions that are referenced by modern psychological theory and methods. In addition, we give them a choice of major that they might want.

How we built it

We use the OCEAN theory and modern psychological approach towards the questions. That's how we chose the quesiton. For the coding part, I didn't use any frame program such as node.js, but I only used those pure programs because we are very new to these programs. I wrote the javascript to wait for the user's input and if the user is interested in doing the survey, the bot gives 12 questions to help him/her to find the program. I used select variable - list of integer to keep track of each program, and made the list of dictionary of the question.

Challenges we ran into

There are some parts of the code that bother us. However, we overcome them one by one. In addition, to create this idea, it took us a whole day. We want the judges to see our mission and vision in contributing to a brighter future.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As our first-ever HACKATHON, we are proud that we can create an idea that will help others.

What we learned

We learned a whole new side of coding, a new side that we never experienced before. However, there we also learn how to conduct a project that is useful and impactful to society.

What's next for MajorMatch: A Personalized Major Selection Assistant

For the future, we just have to make a great database with a great system that may take years to make. However, the impact of it will be huge. Finally, the application of this project can be felt directly by high schoolers through collaboration. Now, I acknowledge that what we're doing is a small step to trigger ample opportunities in the future. However, we can make many improvements to bring a more significant impact. I believe people who want to take opportunities are the first step to a brighter future. They make the world a better place; we are lucky to have them.
