Inspiration

Main Character Energy is a music app guided by your GPS location to play music that's just right for your surroundings, giving you the feeling of a main character with the perfect background music.

We build this project using CSS, JavaScript, and HTML.

Challenges we ran into

A lot! Originally, out team had hoped to utilize the Spotify API and Google's Maps JavaScript API but because no on on the team was very familiar with them, it was difficult to establish that foundation. We eventually decided to scope down the project by only giving the user a select number of songs to choose from. This helped, but due to the time constraints we were not ultimately able to implement this as well as we would have liked. We built implement a prototype in Axure, with the hope of exporting it to HTML/CSS/JS so we could embed Spotify tracks in the page but the export did not go as planned. We decided the best way to develop the project was to write the website in HTML/CSS/JS because we are most familiar with those tools.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

When beginning WiCHacks2024 our team decided that our main goals were to have fun and learn new things. While our project did not turn out quite like we would have wanted, we are proud to say that we met these goals.

What we learned

We learned a lot! We learned about the Spotify API, the Axure RP software, and most importantly we learned not to be hard on ourselves when projects don't quite go to plan. We learned how to do image mapping to make a picture of a map interactive instead of embedded Google Map. We learned how to import mp3 files into a webpage and play them on a button press.
