Inspiration

Tushar, a tech-savvy professional, was tired of the endless email drafts. He'd spend hours perfecting every word, only to feel unsatisfied. Inspired by the growing power of AI, he envisioned a tool that could streamline the process.

What it does

By leveraging the processing power of local devices, Mail Revamp could analyse and enhance email drafts in real-time, without relying on cloud servers.

How we built it

As first-time Chrome extension developers, we leveraged the power of AI code editors our development process. We employed a rapid prototyping approach, iterating quickly on our design and functionality.

Prompt engineering was crucial in harnessing the capabilities of the AI model, especially given the token limitations of the Prompt API. We carefully crafted concise and effective prompts to guide the AI in generating relevant and accurate email suggestions.

One of the initial challenges we faced was getting the extension to run smoothly on Chrome Canary, considering the experimental nature of the AI APIs. Through persistent experimentation, troubleshooting, and leveraging the debugging tools in Chrome Canary, we successfully overcame this hurdle and ensured a seamless user experience.

Challenges we ran into

As this was my first venture into Chrome extension development, coupled with the experimental nature of the Chrome AI API, we encountered some initial hurdles in getting the application to function optimally.

However, the invaluable support from our Discord server and shared Google Docs proved to be lifesavers. Through consistent communication and shared problem-solving, we were able to overcome these challenges and bring Mail Revamp to life.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're particularly proud of Mail Revamp's ability to rewrite emails in three distinct styles:

1. Formal Business: Perfect for professional correspondence.
2. Casual: Ideal for friendly or informal emails.
3. Bullet Point/Concise: Ideal for quick, to-the-point messages. By automating the writing process, Mail Revamp frees up valuable time and mental energy, allowing users to focus on more strategic tasks.

What we learned

Through the development of Mail Revamp, we gained valuable insights into:

What's next for Mail Revamp

With the potential for a wider release of the Prompt API, we're excited to take Mail Revamp to the next level. Our immediate goal is to launch the extension on the Chrome Web Store, making it accessible to a broader audience. We're eager to gather user feedback and iterate on the product to further enhance its capabilities.
