Inspiration

Maharashtra is home to incredible natural beauty - from the Sahyadri mountain ranges to pristine beaches, ancient forts, and wildlife sanctuaries. However, adventure enthusiasts often struggle to discover authentic experiences, compare options, and book trips seamlessly. Local tour operators lack a unified platform to showcase their offerings and reach a wider audience. I built Maharashtra Adventures to bridge this gap - creating a one-stop platform where adventure seekers can explore, compare, and book experiences while empowering local operators to grow their businesses.

What I Built

A comprehensive full-stack adventure tourism platform featuring: *Smart Discovery: Explore destinations by region, activity type (trekking, camping, water sports, cycling, wildlife, heritage), difficulty level, and budget *Comparison Tool: Compare up to 3 listings side-by-side with detailed itineraries, pricing, inclusions, and reviews *Seamless Booking: Complete booking flow with Razorpay payment integration *AI Adventure Concierge: Chatbot powered by Google Gemini that provides personalized recommendations using live data from listings and bookings *Role-Based Dashboards: Users can manage bookings, cancel trips, and leave reviews Operators can track revenue, manage listings, and respond to reviews Admins oversee the entire platform Real-Time Features: Weather integration, notifications, and customer support

Challenges I Faced

*Memory Management: Build process initially failed due to memory constraints with Turbopack. Solved by switching to webpack and optimizing the build configuration *Authentication Flow: Implementing role-based access control with NextAuth.js while ensuring public pages remain accessible *Database Design: Creating a comprehensive schema that handles complex relationships between users, operators, listings, bookings, and reviews *API Integration: Successfully integrating multiple third-party services (Razorpay, Google Maps, OpenWeather, Cloudinary, Resend, Gemini AI)

What I Learned

*Deepened my understanding of Next.js App Router and server components *Mastered Prisma ORM with PostgreSQL for complex data modeling *Implemented secure authentication with role-based authorization *Built scalable API routes with proper error handling and validation *Integrated AI capabilities to enhance user experience
