Inspiration

Picture yourself entering your classroom, greeted by a daunting stack of essays awaiting your attention. Hours are spent meticulously reviewing each paper, striving to offer meaningful feedback amidst your myriad responsibilities. But what if there was a way to lighten this load? Teachers, when faced with a mountain of papers to grade, often struggle to provide detailed feedback to each student, despite its immense value in fostering growth. That's where Auxilium becomes invaluable. It auto-grades various kinds of papers, offering comprehensive feedback despite time constraints, further empowering students to thrive and evolve while increasing teachers' efficiency.

What it does

Its auto-grading technology frees teachers to focus on guiding students. It also offers personalized feedback, highlighting strengths and areas for growth. It's like having a team of teaching assistants by your side, maximizing your impact in less time. Teachers can then edit the feedback from the TinyMCE on our website. A teacher can also collaborate with other teachers using the TinyMCE feature. Students can then get their feedback so much faster and can start reviewing their assignments earlier, not right before the exam date.

How we built it

At the core of our project lies a genius blend of technology and innovation. We kickstarted the process by seamlessly parsing through PDFs, unlocking the treasure trove of student answers within. Then, we deployed Gemini to assess these responses against the mark scheme, ensuring unparalleled precision.

We blend Gemini's insights with TinyMCE, our user-friendly editing interface right on our website. Here, teachers have the power to polish feedback just the way they want using the core editing feature of TinyMCE. A teacher can also collaborate with another teacher using the collaboration feature of TinyMCE. Teachers can export to PDF as well, using the content conversion feature of TinyMCE. Teachers can have a word count limit as well to ensure feedback is not too long, using the word count feature (Productivity) of TinyMCE. Our model's feedback also automatically uses page breaks and lists using the Document Organization of TinyMCE.

Challenges we ran into

Navigating the front-end development terrain posed an exciting challenge for us. While we're all skilled in various areas, crafting a seamless user interface requires a bit of extra finesse. We embraced this opportunity for growth and learning, pushing ourselves to elevate our design skills to new heights.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're especially proud of our integration with TinyMCE, a versatile text editor that empowers teachers to annotate feedback from the AI grader with precision and clarity. This feature enables educators to personalize their comments and suggestions, ensuring that each student receives tailored guidance for their academic growth. With TinyMCE, teachers can effortlessly supplement AI-generated feedback, creating a comprehensive learning experience that meets the unique needs of every learner.

What we learned

During this project, we've mastered using the Google Gemini API and integrating TinyMCE into our website. It's been a collaborative effort, with one of us diving deep into TinyMCE and expanding our toolkit. Working together has been key, and I'm excited to see how we can apply these skills in future projects.

What's next for Auxilium

We will incorporate capabilities to assess various types of content, including written essays, code submissions, multimedia projects, and more, expanding the range of assignments that Auxilium can evaluate.
