Inspiration
In our team, everyone uses computer science and computational tools to expand their fields of interest. For each of us, Computer Science is a second major, alongside disciplines like Physics, Art, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. We wanted to create something that bridges seemingly unrelated fields, blending logic with creativity. That’s how we came up with MagnetiFlow—a project that explores creative coding through the lens of calculus and physics, transforming equations into dynamic, ever-evolving art.
What it does
MagnetiFlow is a physics-driven generative art project where colorful particles move randomly across a canvas, influenced by gravitational and magnetic forces. As they approach each other, their velocities and directions shift dynamically, forming ever-changing patterns. This fusion of art and physics creates unique visual experiences every time, making science beautiful and unpredictable.
How we built it
We built MagnetiFlow using JavaScript for rendering dynamic visuals on the canvas. Canvas API to render and animate objects. Vector math & physics equations to simulate attraction and repulsion forces. Randomized initial conditions to create unique patterns every time.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was the idea generation process. With an open-ended prompt, we had too many possibilities for combining our diverse fields of interest—ranging from physics and engineering to art and computer science. Finding a project that truly blended these disciplines in a meaningful and creative way took time. Once we settled on the idea, the next challenge was simulating realistic yet visually interesting interactions.

We’re proud of how we successfully combined art, physics, and computer science into a visually captivating and interactive simulation. Our project demonstrates the beauty of creative coding, where mathematical principles shape dynamic, ever-changing patterns.
What we learned
We learned how to collaborate effectively in a team with diverse mindsets and approaches—balancing the creativity of an artistic thinker, the precision and efficiency of two result-oriented engineers, and the analytical depth of a scientific physics genius.
