Magic Shoe Box
Inspiration
The idea sparked from a desire to blend the convenience of online shopping with the creativity of custom shoe design. I wanted to create an immersive experience that makes shoe customization accessible and fun for everyone.
What It Does
Magic Shoe Box is an XR application that allows users to design custom Nike shoes in a virtual environment. Users can place a shoe in a "magic box" to generate unique designs, customize every aspect using AI-powered tools, and preview their creations in mixed reality.
How It Was Built
I developed this as a solo project using:
- Next.js for the frontend and API routes
- React Three Fiber for 3D interactions
- React XR for XR interactions
- UIKIT for the user interface
Challenges I Ran Into
- Optimizing performance for complex 3D rendering in a web-based XR environment
- Implementing realistic physics for the shoe customization interactions
Accomplishments that i'm proud of
- Created a fully functional XR shoe customization experience as a solo developer
- Successfully integrated cutting-edge web technologies to create an immersive 3D environment
- Integrated SDXL on bedrock into the app
What I learned
- The intricacies of developing for XR in a web environment
- Balancing performance and feature richness in 3D web applications
- The importance of user experience design in spatial computing
What's next for Magic Shoe Box
- The ability to post, share and upvote
- Exploring partnerships with shoe manufacturers for real-world production of custom designs
