Inspiration

We wanted to solve the classic “What do I cook with what I have?” problem. Too many ingredients go to waste because people can’t figure out what to make. We envisioned an AI that transforms fridge chaos into tasty, tailored meals, while supporting dietary needs and sustainability.

What it does

Magic Recipe AI lets users upload a photo or input a list of ingredients. The AI analyzes what you have, matches it with dietary preferences, and instantly generates easy-to-follow recipes. It helps reduce food waste and makes cooking simple, creative, and fun.

How we built it

We combined image recognition to detect ingredients from photos, natural language processing to handle typed lists, and an AI recipe generator that matches inputs with a rich recipe database. The app’s front end is intuitive and mobile-friendly, and we integrated dietary filters to personalize results.

Challenges we ran into

Training image recognition to handle poor lighting or messy fridge shots.

Balancing recipe creativity with realistic cooking steps and available ingredients.

Building a smooth user experience with quick, accurate AI responses.

Getting the right prompt because this is for a one-shot challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A working prototype that generates practical, delicious recipes from real-life, random fridge photos.

Successfully integrating dietary options like vegan, gluten-free, and low-carb.

Making the process user-friendly and genuinely useful for reducing waste.

What we learned

Users love instant feedback, speed, and clarity matter.

Ingredient recognition is trickier than it seems; context is everything!

Personalization (like dietary needs) makes the app far more valuable.
