Inspiration

Math. The underlaying implementation of our game, that teaches graph functions discreetly to the user. We thought it would be an interesting idea to create a game such as so, given our passion for mathematics and games.

What it does

You are able to create a magic circle from simple options, this magic circle takes the formation of 3 layers, each layer applying a unique way to how the magic behaves.

Challenges we ran into

Since the hackathon today came without a theme, we were granted much more unrestricted freedom than we initally anticipated. With that, came the issue of selecting an idea that everyone would be most happy with, and have the most fun developing. Creating a design we were satisfied with when designing the magic circle was difficult, as it had to be done with "simple" css and needed a way to visualize the incrementation of the layer. Just combining a total of 3 layers into 1 magic rune, in a way that looks viable and works as intended was challenging. Thinking on ways to transform math equations and operations into other representations took us much more times than we thought of.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Utilizing CSS to create a very cool looking magic circle through trial and error and much deliberation of the design to form a complete product was satisfying to fully develop. Initially we thought that the scope of our project would have been too much, but we were able to come together to narrow it down to an MVP where everyone was occupied enough to work throughout the whole night.

What we learned

More clearly define scope. Simpler projects can still be very creative and fun to work on.

What's next for Magic Cat

Better sprites and animations. Splash screens and menus. A tutorial and progression so the user can understand how the game works and progress through it. More operations and magic symbols.
