Everyone designs Vancouver as the view. This kit designs Vancouver as the work nobody credits: the record shops, the all-ages basement shows, CiTR at 2am, the questions the press conference was built to avoid.
The team is Nardwuar FC, after Nardwuar the Human Serviette, the Vancouver interviewer who has ambushed everyone from Nirvana to prime ministers armed with nothing but deep local research and receipts. He is the thesis worn on a body: research is the protest, the receipt is the weapon. It's an homage, not an impersonation. The tribute lives in objects, the tam, the mic, the stacks of records, never his face or name as merch.
The build follows one rule: mimic the official polish, invert the payload, bake in the receipt. A ghosted tartan check carries an ultra-faint collage of flyers and microtype quotes. The crest swaps the lion for a vintage mic and a spindle of 7-inches. The chest reads VANCOUVER, not a club. The sleeve carries a DEEP RESEARCH patch. The back is a ransom-note NARDWUAR!! over No. 97, for APEC Vancouver 1997, and the hem prints the receipt: Chrétien on the pepper-sprayed protesters, "For me, pepper, I put it on my plate." His sign-off, DOOT DOOLA DOOT DOO, hides in the collar.
Could this kit come from anywhere else? No. That's the brief, answered. Cut in three colorways on ocean-bound recycled fabric, with the whole archive printed where a sponsor logo usually goes.
Speed without slop is the entire game. AI hands you a hundred plausible jerseys an hour, and plausible is the enemy. The value isn't in the generating, it's in the judgment about what to keep, and judgment doesn't speed up the way throughput does. Every shortcut we took on volume we paid back in editing.
We also learned the design got stronger the more specific it got. "Vancouver music" is nothing. CiTR call letters, a 7-inch label, the exact APEC quote, the tam: those are something. The brief said specificity beats generic, and it was right every time we tested it.
